Top Ten Tire Safety Tips

Tires have been a vehicle’s most important safety feature for more than 100 years. After all, they are a vehicle’s only contact with the road. Even the brawniest engine, strongest brakes, and most advanced anti-skid system are at the mercy of the tire’s grip on the road.

1. Check tire pressures and adjust at least once a month.

2. Inspect tires regularly for abnormal wear or damage.

3. Rotate tires every 6,000 miles or according to owner’s manual.

4. Maintain tires in proper balance.

5. Maintain steering and suspension in proper alignment.

6. Never overload a tire.

7. Avoid overheating tires.

8. Replace tires when required.

9. Install tires in matched pairs or complete sets.

Baseding on NHTSA, under-inflated tires can negatively have an effect on gas economic situation, lead to skidding and reduction of control and hydroplaning on wet surfaces. It could additionally boost quiting range and the probability of tire failures.

5 Reasons to Donate to Charity:

From fancy cars and expensive clothes to fine dining and exotic vacations, there are many ways you can spend your hard-earned dollars. And there is nothing wrong with rewarding yourself for a job well done — but what would happen if you rewarded someone else instead?

A recent study by Harvard Business School faculty and graduate students titled “Feeling Good about Giving: The Benefits (and Costs) of Self-Interested Charitable Behavior,” explores the ways in which charitable behavior can lead to benefits for the giver. While the the concept that giving to others can make you feel good about yourself is not revolutionary, there are several more subtle ways that giving your money or time for a cause can benefit your psychological, spiritual and emotional well-being.

Here are five reasons to donate to charity

based on the research of the Harvard Business School as well as other experts and websites.

Donations are tax deductible

When you donate to a charitable organization or a non-profit group, the amount you donate is tax deductible. But not only is the money you give tax deductible, so are the amounts you spend on travel, parking costs and even convention and event fees that are related to the non-profit group, as long as you are not being reimbursed by the charity for these expenses.

Giving to charity may improve your sense of well-being

The act of helping others can create an improved sense of well-being. Knowing that you sacrificed something such as time, finances or property in order to help others in need can give you a sense of purpose in life or work and inner satisfaction.

Supporting a cause can help keep you informed about issues of social injustice

When considering donating to a charity, many people tend to research the issues connected to that organization. As a result, you become more educated about social injustices around the world. You may discover new points of view and opinions on topics about which you were previously uniformed. This knowledge may position you to help increase the awareness of social problems among those in your sphere of influence from a balanced and educated standpoint.

Giving to charity out of spiritual conviction can strengthen your spiritual life

Selfless giving is a key component to many spiritual and religious belief systems. Recognizing that you have taken action in line with your spiritual beliefs by offering your resources to others in need can bring a sense of inner peace and contentment.

Volunteering with a charity may result in physical and social benefits

After donating financially to a charity or non-profit organization, you may feel an inner pull to become more involved with the cause by donating your time and skill as well. By volunteering, you have the opportunity to build your social circles while reaping the physical, mental and spiritual benefits from the labor you contribute to your favorite cause.

SCAM ALERTS… Auto Warranties by manufacturer & Routine Maintenance!

Federal Trade Commission – Consumer information said: If you own a car, you know how important it is to keep up with routine maintenance and repairs. But can a dealer refuse to honor the warranty that came with your new car if someone else does the routine maintenance or repairs?

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation’s consumer protection agency, says no. In fact, it’s illegal for a dealer to deny your warranty coverage simply because you had routine maintenance or repairs performed by someone else. Routine maintenance often includes oil changes, tire rotations, belt replacement, fluid checks and flushes, new brake pads, and inspections. Maintenance schedules vary by vehicle make, model and year; the best source of information about routine scheduled maintenance is your owner’s manual.

What is a warranty?

A warranty is a promise, often made by a manufacturer, to stand behind its product or to fix certain defects or malfunctions over a period of time. The warranty pays for any covered repairs or part replacements during the warranty period.

Do I have to use the dealer for repairs and maintenance to keep my warranty in effect?

No. An independent mechanic, a retail chain shop, or even you yourself can do routine maintenance and repairs on your vehicle. In fact, the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, which is enforced by the FTC, makes it illegal for manufacturers or dealers to claim that your warranty is void or to deny coverage under your warranty simply because someone other than the dealer did the work. That said, there may be certain situations where a repair may not be covered. For example, if you or your mechanic replaced a belt improperly and your engine is damaged as a result, your manufacturer or dealer may deny responsibility for fixing the engine under the warranty. However, according to the FTC, the manufacturer or dealer must be able to demonstrate that it was the improper belt replacement — rather than some other defect — that caused the damage to your engine. The warranty would still be in effect for other parts of your car.

Will using ‘aftermarket’ or recycled parts void my warranty?

No. An ‘aftermarket’ part is a part made by a company other than the vehicle manufacturer or the original equipment manufacturer. A ‘recycled’ part is a part that was made for and installed in a new vehicle by the manufacturer or the original equipment manufacturer, and later removed from the vehicle and made available for resale or reuse. Simply using an aftermarket or recycled part does not void your warranty. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act makes it illegal for companies to void your warranty or deny coverage under the warranty simply because you used an aftermarket or recycled part. Still, if it turns out that the aftermarket or recycled part was itself defective or wasn’t installed correctly, and it causes damage to another part that is covered under the warranty, the manufacturer or dealer has the right to deny coverage for that part and charge you for any repairs. The FTC says the manufacturer or dealer must show that the aftermarket or recycled part caused the need for repairs before denying warranty coverage.

Tips To Avoid Warranty Issues

Here’s how to get the most out of your vehicle’s warranty:

  • Read your warranty. Often bundled with your owner’s manual, the warranty gives a general description and specific details about your coverage. If you have misplaced your owner’s manual, look for it online. Check the “Owners” section of your manufacturer’s website.
  • Be aware of your warranty period. If problems arise that are covered under the warranty, get them checked out before the warranty expires.
  • Service your car at regular intervals. This is a good idea in any case. But for the sake of keeping your warranty intact, follow the manufacturer’s recommended service schedule. Details are in your owner’s manual.
  • Keep all service records and receipts, regardless of who performs the service. This includes oil changes, tire rotations, belt replacement, new brake pads, and inspections. Create a file to keep track of repairs; it will come in handy if you have to use your warranty. If you ever have a warranty claim and it appears that you did not maintain your vehicle, your claim could be denied.
  • Complain. If you think a dealer’s service advisor denied your warranty claim unfairly, ask to speak with a supervisor. If you still aren’t satisfied, contact the manufacturer or go to another dealer. You also may wish to file a complaint with your state Attorney General, local consumer protection office, or the FTC.

Do you know your vehicle winter driving tire pressure…! | Tires

Do you know your vehicle winter driving tire pressure…! It’s easy to forget that tires are the only point of contact between your vehicle and the road. That is why it’s extremely important to preserve the quality and performance of your tires to ensure both your safety and your mobility.

TiresDid you know, the area of your tire that’s actually in contact with the road is only about the size of your hand? Your safety, comfort and fuel economy depends on that very small area. Make sure you not only select the right tires, but also regularly maintain them to ensure they perform at their best. It’s important because your tires are the only link between your vehicle and the road, carry the entire weight of your car, a load of up to 50 times their own weight, respond to driving inputs such as steering, acceleration and braking from the car to the road surface, and Absorb every obstacle on the road.

Make sure to regularly check the tread depth of your tires and replace them when they are worn. This will guarantee maximum traction and grip, helping you avoid any unpleasant surprises. Change your tires before your tread depth is worn to 1.6mm. The tread grooves disperse water from underneath your tire, helping maintain control. The more tread depth you have remaining on your tires the more water they can disperse, reducing the risk of aquaplaning. Correct air pressure, as well as regular vehicle maintenance, will ensure your tires perform at their best for the longest possible time.

Correct tire pressure reduces the risk of losing control of your vehicle. It also protects your tires from premature wear and irreversible damage to the internal construction. Tire pressure can drop due to small perforations, the natural escape of air (air leaks) through the tire’s components, or even from a decrease in ambient temperatures. Under or over inflation can reduce the life of your tires, affect their performance and increase the risk of damage.

Know your vehicle tire pressure

TiresUse the proper air pressure on a plaque riveted inside the driver’s front door. This is the car manufacturer’s recommended pressure, based on the weight of the car and the manufacture’s tire size. Most cars now have a tire pressure warning light that illuminates if pressures are outside 25% of baseline – if you see that, you must correct the air pressure or find out the reason for air leaks.

Too much pressure can be as bad as or worse than too little. Stiffer tires will transmit more energy from an impact to the wheels than tires that can flex a bit.

Air pressure will vary with temperature:

To get consistent readings always check your pressures before driving when the tires are cold. If you must add air to hot tires, leave a pound or two less than usual, depending on how much cold air you are adding. When cold weather comes around, make sure to check your pressures on frigid mornings – air pressure can drop about 1 psi for every 10 degree drop in temperature. Combined with cold-stiffened rubber, this loss of pressure can sometimes cause tires to spring otherwise unexplainable leaks.

Low pressure will damage your tire:

Do you know your vehicle winter driving tire pressure...!

Running at low pressure on the tire for a sustained period of time can damage the sidewall of the tire as it starts to fold over. Just a little bit of fold over will damage the sidewall of the rubber, but at a certain point the sidewall folds enough that the inner edges touch, and this will start to scrub rubber off the inside of the tires, leaving the cords exposed, and handfuls of “rubber dust” inside the tire. At that point, the tire is destroyed. 2007 model or later; will have a “low tire pressure” light on the dashboard and the benefits of TPMS is to warn you before the damage occur.

TiresAir pressure maintenance is actually one of the most important repeating maintenance items on your car. Proper air maintenance will give better gas mileage, avoid irregular wear and extend the life of your tires by thousands of miles. If it’s not part of your maintenance routine – and for millions of drivers, it’s not – you really should come and visit BINGO TIRES-Charlotte once a month.

AUTO MAINTENANCE SERVICES Most Charlotte customers know us for our tires — but we’re so much more than just that. The automotive specialists at BINGO Tire Charlotte can AUTO MAINTENANCE SERVICES service your vehicle completely and professionally using ADVANCE AUTO PARTS – Charlotte, as our car maintenance services include:

  • Oil Changes
  • Oil
  • Lube
  • Filter
  • Brakes
  • Replacement
  • Belts & Hoses
  • Timing Belt
  • Serpentine Belt
  • Radiator Hoses
  • Preventative Maintenance

Following your vehicle’s factory AUTO MAINTENANCE SERVICES schedule will certainly lead to a positive driving experience and longer life for your vehicle. Be proactive and save yourself headaches, hassles and the risk of dealing with major problems and costs down the road!

Many batteries are advanced and no longer require too much maintenance. To be on the safe side, you should know where your car’s battery is located and check it periodically to ensure it is not leaking acid and has adequate water in it to prevent it from failing.

Most batteries also have a condition indicator that displays different colors to indicate how the battery is functioning. Blue means the battery is functioning normally, Red means it’s time to add distilled water, and White means charging is necessary. Simple directions can usually be found on the side of the battery. Our auto repair will gladly examine and replace your battery, as needed.

Antifreeze keeps your engine temperatures stable in all climate and driving conditions. Always be sure you have the right level of antifreeze in your car. Invest a few dollars in a bottle of antifreeze and keep it handy. Antifreeze should always be added when the engine is cool. If the engine is warm, use caution. Use a funnel as you would when adding motor oil to avoid splashing this greenish, toxic chemical on other parts of the car.

About 32 psi on a gauge is about average for a mid-sized sedan, but check your owner’s manual to be sure. Slightly deflated or unbalanced tires will not only cause shakiness when you drive at highway speeds, but will eventually warp the tires and reduce your gas mileage. A way to avoid this is to always replace new tires in pairs so you can put the new ones on the front and move the old front ones to the back. This usually lets you get more use out of them. Our tire shops carry top-of-the-line tire brands for when your tires are worn and not safe to drive.

The air filter on the engine, called the air intake, prevents dust and dirt from entering the engine. Take care of your engine by replacing your air filter when necessary. Checking the air filter only takes a few minutes, and our mechanics would be glad to change the filter for you.

At BINGO Tire Charlotte, we believe that AUTO MAINTENANCE SERVICES simple maintenance schedule is the key to safe the good performance of your vehicle for long time. The following seasonal car tips below will help you to stay on track:

Auto Maintenance Services

Tire: When the tread is worn down to 2/32 of an inch, tires must be replaced. All tires have “wear bars,” which are small, raised bars of rubber in the groove that indicate when tires are worn out. If your tread is worn down to the wear bars, it’s time for a new tire.

Radiator Flush: The coolant in your radiator doesn’t last forever and over time it can break down and start to corrode the inside of your radiator. A radiator flush once a year is cheap insurance against radiator repairs.

Headlights: Take a good look all around your vehicle headlight and stoplight, you may find out that you need to replace a bulb or two. Not only is it unsafe to drive with one headlight, you can get a ticket!

Belts & Hoses: Have belts and hoses checked to ensure that belts are not worn and fittings are tight.

Auto Maintenance Services

Brake Inspection: Have your brakes inspected twice a year just to be sure everything is in perfect condition.

Battery: Ensure that the battery is charged and that contacts are clean.

Tire: Check the tire pressure. Cold weather can reduce tire pressure by 1 psi for every 10 degree drop in temperature. If you have a spare tire in the trunk, check it for damage and pressure as well.

Antifreeze: Antifreeze (the juice that goes in your radiator) is an essential part of your car’s winter protection. Your car contains a 50/50 mix of water and antifreeze. Make sure the level is full and the mixture is close to 50/50.

Windshield washer fluid: You’ll be using lots of washer fluid as you try to keep your windshield sparkly. *Tip: Don’t fill your washer fluid reservoir with anything except washer fluid, it won’t freeze!

Spark plug wires: Plug wires affect performance, gas mileage and general reliability. Be sure yours are in top shape.

Your car is an investment; protect your investment by keeping up with the car maintenance services during the four seasons of the year. When it comes time to sell your car or make repairs, having maintained some of these basic areas will really pay off. BINGO Tire shop is centrally located in Charlotte Area. Stop by or give us a call to have your vehicle maintenance areas checked over by our highly trained professional auto technicians!

Size matters when it comes to tires…!

4026 N.Tryon St, Charlotte

(980) 207-2732

We like to display and share with our customers this concern and its answers based on variety of opinions:

Q-it’s not a huge deal to get a lower aspect tire, say a 60 versus a 65, but does it really matter if wheel width is an extra 10 millimeters wide?

A-if their is nothing the tire can rub while turned all the way, and with the strut compacted, then you should be fine.

A-if it were a new car you might be concerned about voiding warranties.

A-10 mm is simply that much more rubber on the surface … and surface contact leads to better stability and traction … thus, perhaps, more safety!

A-Should be OK. When I have upped the width, I lower the aspect ratio so that the rolling radius and circumference is the same. This preserves the intended design geometry, the biggest effect on a front-drive car would be scrub radius which will effect steering pull under braking. I went to 195-60 from a 185-65 I think. The car spec originally had 175-70s but for the new 195s, user feedback said they ran very narrow for their size so I upped two sizes and they were right. As I recall, used to list the specs for the tires they sell. Check your speed and odometer using a measured mile and a stopwatch, if it is way off you might want to return them. Sometimes a larger tire is a good move, but sometimes the tire place has more of them in stock so they push them. A 195 will wear better, have slightly more rolling resistance, but to preserve the same section height you will need a slightly lower section profile, as section height (60, 65) is the percent of section width.

A-Over a 1% error is going to cause problems with the computers, I would think, both engine and maybe with braking calculations.

A-i always go to a bigger tire on my vehicles, it usually takes away from my gas mileage, and maybe a little rougher ride, makes my odometer off by a few miles per hr , but i like the extra height and width.

A-you can’t be serious. Width has nothing to do with the amount of “rubber” in contact with the road. Contact on the road is determined by the weight on the tire and the PSI of the air in the tire.

PSI X surface contact = total weight. Try taking 4 pieces of paper and sliding them up tight to the rubber in contact with the road on all 4 sides of the tread area. Then measure the actual square inches in contact with the road. now measure the air in the tire. multiply those together and save the #. Do all 4 tires and add the final tally…….you will have the weight of the car.

wider tires will change nothing.

A-Unless the slightly wider tire rubs on something, it won’t make any significant difference IMHO. The change in type of tire and rubber compound will make far more difference than the additional 10mm of width. It might be very slightly better, as Brad says, but it isn’t much of a change. I wouldn’t worry about it.

A-The car nuts here at work always go for wider tires for better cornering performance. They’ll generally take the widest tires that will fit without rubbing. There don’t seem to be negative consequences unless you care about gas mileage, and the car nuts only care about performance. I don’t think 10mm will make any difference, as long as they don’t rub anywhere. Even gas mileage should not be impacted very much.

Whoever coined the term “all-season tire”in the late 1970s probably wasn’t trying to mislead tire buyers. Instead, they were trying to play catch-up with Goodyear’s hugely successful Tiempo, a tire that was wonderful “for all seasons, for all year,” according to its TV jingle

Still, near-universal confusion sprung from the name all-season. Most people have the mistaken belief that all-season tires are better in spring showers and fall rains than regular tires. (Regular tires have become known as summer or, more accurately, three-season tires.) I’ve found many tire-company employees, automaker engineers, and car writers who don’t know the correct answer, either.

Here’s the truth: “All-season” doesn’t mean the tire has great performance in all seasons. It means that the tire is a compromise—the designer traded wet grip to gain some mobility in snow, give drivers tires that could provide adequate year-round performance, and save them the trouble of changing their tires before and after the winter.

But “some mobility in snow” is not the same thing as “good grip in snow.” The snow traction of all-season tires varies from great to almost none. And an all-season tire has less damp-road grip than an otherwise equal summer tire from the same manufacturer. So winter is the only season when an all-season tire offers more traction than a summer tire. If you live where it never snows, the three-season regular tire always holds the

How to Get Your Car Ready for Fall

Fall Vehicle Maintenance Checklist: be prepared!

  1. Check your oil level, and add oil if necessary; it’s even better if you perform an oil and lube job. Be sure to use a multi-grade viscosity oil for winter driving.
  2. Test your battery for free at any of our auto parts stores. If it needs to be replaced, Advance Auto Parts will install the new battery for no extra fee.
  3. Inspect your windshield wipers. Bitter cold, snow and ice are hard on their rubber blades. You can find blades designed for winter at Advance Auto Parts stores. We’ll install those for free, too.
  4. Fill your windshield wiper reservoir with the proper type of windshield fluid for your climate.
  5. Look at the level and condition of your engine coolant. If the level is low, add antifreeze. If the condition looks poor, do a flush-and-fill.
  6. Evaluate your belts and hoses. If you see any evidence of fraying, cracking or leaking, get a new belt or hose immediately.
  7. Consider getting a tune-up, especially if it’s been 30,000 miles or so since your last one. At the least, perform a visual inspection of your spark plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor.
  8. Make sure your tires are properly inflated. When dealing with sloppy or icy road conditions, you’ll need the best traction your tires can deliver. If your tires are worn, replace them before winter arrives.
  9. Apply high-grade car wax to your vehicle’s exterior to help protect it from the possible onslaught of snow, ice, sleet and freezing rain.
  10. Put together a winter car survival kit. Jumper cables, flares, ice scrapers, road salt, flashlights, flares, blankets, first aid materials and snacks are all good to include in your kit.
